It takes a man of God, with the Word of God, and the Spirit of God, to make the children of God, for the glory of God. My name is Romy Dacayanan and I am married to Emer Dacayanan for thirty two years. We were blessed to have two sons, Nico who passed away five years ago and Stephen who is twenty six years of age, actively serving in Singles for Christ. He is currently a household head in New Jersey. Our sons literally grew up in Couples for Christ. Our family enjoys travelling to places, either short or long drives and taking flights to other states where and when we can serve in CFC events and at the same time, a vacation to do our recreational activities. As the saying goes, “hitting two birds with one stone”.
We value family time. Spending time with family, close cousins and their families is something we love to build lasting memories. Another way to enjoy our time together is reading and watching sports. Of course, as we reminisce and get updated with our beloved country, Philippines, we also enjoy and follow tele-serye series as a couple.
Emer and I are blessed to be in Couples for Christ for twenty eight years. We are grateful to our Lord that our sons are greatly involved in service together with us. At least for Nico when he was still alive, loved to serve in CFC-Youth. I can say that Couples for Christ is a part of our family life and will always will.
The Lord has been good and loving to us. Currently I am part of the US National Council for Evangelization and Mission that includes international. My service includes the pastoral role for the regional heads and few of the area heads. I have my sincere desire to help them grow in their service and to achieve their goals through encouragement and motivation. At times as a true brother in Christ, I am just there to listen on the non-service related stories. Being in the community for some time now, I had the opportunity to serve as a Pastoral Formation and Gift of Life Officer, also as a Church Relations Officer. I consider my services a good mix that helped me and my family to grow closer to God. I just open myself to the Lord so I can serve him by serving others especially in our community.
What do you like about the ministry? At this stage, I cannot imagine life without Couples for Christ. My children, spouse and I have grown with the community. CFC is our second family. Now, you all know why we stick with CFC over the years.
People may ask me what I would like to achieve in my current service. I can honestly say, “Bring more souls into God’s kingdom”, meaning growth in CFC membership across all areas in CFC USA including non-Filipino members.
My favorite bible verses are, I Corinthians 10:1, “No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it”.
Second, Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work for good for those who love God,* who are called according to his purpose”. These are the scriptures where we get our strength, motivation, and inspiration to follow God.
My Patron Saint is Saint Christopher. He is my companion in all my travels for protection as he is the Patron Saint of travelers. In addition, Saint Christopher is believed to protect people from epilepsy, lightning, storms, pestilence, and floods. I always pray to him in all my travels to near and far places.
How did I feel God`s love in my experience that inspired me the most? The day my son Nico passed away five years ago. I have never imagined my family would continue to serve Him with such passion and zeal. He made us stronger through our experience and I always look back to thank God for the tremendous blessing that He made us His instruments in spreading His good news to all. I know that I have someone praying for us in heaven.
For me and my family, it has been a source of great comfort and strength in the day of battle, just to remember that the secret of steadfastness, and indeed, of victory, is the recognition that “the Lord is at hand.”
